In 1984 Annie and Lachlan Stewart founded the design partnership ANTA Scotland creating original home furnishing collections of textiles and ceramic stoneware. After rescuing and restoring an eighteenth century weaver's house in Spitalfields, they set up a studio in London, living and working from home. They opened their first shop in London in 1990 and returned home to the Highlands to start their pottery and textile manufacturing, building a team by training craftsmen and women locally. In 1995, the first ANTA shop was opened in Edinburgh, and since storefronts have been opened in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

The royal launch of the new manufacturing facilities in the Highlands of Scotland last year signified ANTA’s long standing commitment to preserving the traditional Scottish textile industry. Everything is created from a strong sense of place that truly values the ‘Made in Scotland’ identity- the style and quality of the local and natural materials used in the refurbishment perfectly complement these locally sourced collections. ANTA offers traditional Scottish designs made with pride, while incorporating fresh, contemporary colors for modern design.
